Karan Johar is a big name in Bollywood these days. He is none other than the very famous director of Bollywood industry. Who would believe that the director himself sometimes writes the screening of his films? Yes, that’s so true. Not only this but Karan Johar is a man of different talents. He is also a producer and the founder of Dharma Productions. Not to forget that Karan Johar is also an actor who has done some really good projects for us. Today, he’s definitely at cloud 7 but waits, who knows about his hard work and struggle? No one.
Age : 47 Years Profession : Producer, Director Name: Karan Johar Birthday: 25 May
Karan Johar Early Life, Education
Karan Johar was born on 25 May 1972 which makes him 47 years old. At such an age, he looks really young and is undoubtedly active. Karan Johar took birth in an Indian family with father Yash Johar and mother Hiroo Johar in Mumbai, Maharashtra. His whole life is spent in Mumbai. He grew up there and decided to choose to become a part of the Bollywood industry. Since his childhood, Karan was well introduced to Bollywood because of his uncle Yash Chopra. First Karan decided to complete his schooling and then started his undergraduate course. He completed his studies from Mumbai only. After completing his B.Com. Karan then pursued a master’s degree in French.
Karan Johar started his career as an actor. His first serial was Indradhanush that came out in 1989. He then started directing films. Initially, he followed numerology which includes film titles starting and having a few more words with the letter K. His first few movies that were based on this practice were Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and Kal Ho Na Ho. All his movies were very effective in the box office and bought him enough fame. Since the very first movie produced and directed by Karan Johar, he became a brand in Bollywood industry. Karan Johar stopped the numerology practice after watching the movie Lage Raho Munna Bhai because the movie was a critic of numerology. After that, Karan Johar started making Romantic films rather than family. Although his films were worth being watched with family, still they revolved more around love stories.
All his works were very famous. His films include Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Student of the Year, Student of the Year 2, Kalank, Dhadak, Badrinath ki Dulhaniya, Dostana, Drive, Raazi, Kesari, Ye Jawani Hai Deewani, Lust Stories, Agneepath, 2 States, Baar Baar Dekho, Kapoor and Sons, Shandar, Dear Zindagi, Wake Up Sid, Humpty Sharma ki Dulhaniya, Hasee Toh Phasee, Kurban, OK Jaanu, Simmba, Ungli, Gori Tere Pyar Mein, I Hate Love Stories, We Are Family, Dostana 2, Brothers and Ek Main Aur Ek Tu.
One of his most famous Bollywood movies is Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The movie is a story of many characters falling in love and then falling out of love with each other. One good thing that Karan kept in mind while directing the movie is the star cast. He cast Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai and even Shahrukh Khan. The actors are the superstars so the movie was supposed to be a hit anyway.
Next, very well known work of his is Student of the Year. The movie did not only do good in the box office but is also an evergreen movie. It became famous among the teenagers and none of the teenagers of that time would have skipped even the repeat telecast of the movie. The songs were beautifully captured. Student of the year is the story of college love. Here, Karan Johar beautifully explains the love stories of three students. It is basically a love triangle. Next in the series is part 2 that came out recently in the cinemas. Student of the Year 2 did not do that good as compared to part 1 but still rocked the box office with its collection. What we can conclude is that the Director’s name is enough to sell his work. Student of the Year 2 is also a love story of 3 students. The star cast includes Tiger Shroff and 2 other newcomers into Bollywood. 2 states are the direction of a movie on the novel ‘2 States’ by Chetan Bhagat.
Karan might have really loved the concept of love taking birth between people belonging from two different communities. Again the movie is a college romance and popular among teenagers. Karan’s main focus is to make movies for teenagers. He knows how to impress the majority. Humpty Sharma ki Dulhaniya and Badrinath ki Dulhaniya were two different movies with the same star cast and same romantic comedy theme. In both movies, we see Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. Even the stories matched but because Karan Johar produced them, they hit the box office high.
Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani was also a big hit but this one was not about much of college romance. Although the movie started with college-going adults but then, it was for a short portion. The movie had Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Singh as star cast. Others were Aditya Roy Kapoor and Kalki Koechlin. Kalank and Dhadak came out recently. Both movies were unique in different ways. What made Dhadak famous was the star cast of course. The story was totally copied and uninteresting. The movie was boring and the character’s roles didn’t suit them. It was a debut film of both Janhvi Kapoor and Ishan Khattar. Janhvi is the daughter of the superstar late Mrs Sridevi Ji. Her movie came out immediately after her mother’s death and due to sympathy and curiosity among the public to see if the daughter is as good an actress as her mother, the movie was a big hit.
Kalank got famous because of Madhuri Dixit. The evergreen actress came out in limelight again on the request of Karan Johar, who knew how to sell his next movie. Alia also acted well along with Varun Dhawan.
Too much about the movies. I guess I should not miss the humourous talent of Karan Johar that he showed in his television show Koffee with Karan by asking out of the box yet unexpected questions from the celebrities. Karan is famous for this show that he started in 2004 and at the age of 47, he’s still the host of the show. In Koffee with Karan, Karan invites different celebrities and famous personalities over a coffee and discusses about their lives. Basically he interrogates theirs lifestyles and sometimes, even the personal life. His way of questioning is unique and that’s how no celebrity ever replies to his questions without getting humiliated. His other reality shows included a dance show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa where ne was a judge, India’s next superstar and India’s got talent.
Karan is a man of different talents. We can see the beautiful outfits of the characters in his movies. Like his movies, the dressing style of the characters is unique yet beautiful. To cut to the end, Karan Johan is the reason behind the uniqueness. Yes, he is also a designer who sometimes design outfits for the characters in his movies.
Which famous personality didn’t get trolled? Karan Johar was too. He was being carried (still sometimes people call him) a gay. Although three mouths were shut as soon as he became a father of 2 in February 2017. Karan named his son after his father, Yash and his daughter Roohi is a jumbled version of his mother’s name Hiroo.
Karan was also awarded for best direction of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998 and My Name is Khan in 2010. Overall, he had won 24 awards from 40 nominations and it is a big record.
The man may be getting older by age but his brain is still that of a youngster and with this, we can expect some more great Bollywood projects from the legend.
