Ninja has played alongside the likes Drake, Travis Scott and also other professional athletes. Breaking the twitch records by hosting his own Esports tournament called Ninja Vegas 18. Childhood, Education and Early Beginnings

Richard Tyler Blevins aka Ninja aka Richard ‘Ninja’ Blevins was born on June 5, 1991, in Lake Villa, Illinois, USA. Being the youngest of three brothers, Tyler got into gaming at an early age because of his father who also loved video games. Quickly started getting the hang of it and Tyler started beating his older brothers in video games quickly. Tyler’s first game of choice was Halo which was first released in 2001 and he mastered every detail. He was also a big fan of Final Fantasy XI, which he started playing when he was on 12 years old all the way up to college.

Tyler attended Grayslake North High School from 2005 to 2009 and during that time he also worked at Noodle & company. Also during that time, he became one of the first few Halo players who streamed on and Twitch.  As he got his way through high school, his online numbers were also climbing gradually with his bank account. He had also found his girlfriend now wife – Jessica Goch and life was going well. He left his job at Noodles & Company when he started earning 3,000 dollars a month through streaming and a little time later, he also stopped going to school.

The kid from Lake Villa was quickly earning some buzz after winning his first Halo 4 exhibition at the Dallas convention centre in 2012. He also appeared on the TV reality show ‘Family Feud’ hosted by Steve Harvey. After this Tyler was quickly becoming one of the most popular Halo streamers in the world. Everything was going well when in 2014, a problem occurred. Tyler’s vision was depleting, turns out his retina detached. He signed up for the surgery and it took months. The online momentum that he had built up was at a halt and all of a sudden a comeback seemed like a blurry image to him. Then he came back bigger than ever.

When he came back in 2015, he was playing under Cloud9’s tag and boy did he destroy. He was placed first at the one H1Z1  invitational. Now that’s what we call a comeback. After Halo and H1Z1, Ninja moved to a new game which took the video game industry by a storm. It was Player Unknowns Battlegrounds aka PUBG. His streaming numbers boomed and his subscriber numbers were rising.

After this Tyler played PUBG a lot, adding more gimmicks in his streams to make them more interactive and fun. But this was just the tip of the iceberg. The real switch that no one saw coming happened when another battle royale game launched and it became bigger than any online multiplayer game, even PUBG. It was Fortnite. When Ninja put his hands on this game, he struck gold. With his numbers booming faster than before, and his sub count raising itself at an alarming rate, Ninja became the biggest Video game athlete in the world. In March 2018, Tyler set the Twitch record for the largest concurrent audience on an Individual stream which included 635,000, while playing Fortnite with Drake, Travis Scott and Juju Smith-Schuster.

After this in April 2018, he broke his own viewing record during his event Ninja Vegas 18, which gathered 667,000 live viewers. Tyler has over 22 million subscribers on YouTube and earns more than 500,000 dollars per month from streaming Fortnite. In September 2018, he became the first professional Esports player to be featured on the cover of ESPN The Magazine. He was awarded three awards in 2018 which included Creator of the year, Esports personality of the year, Content creator of the year. And in 2019 he became the Twitch Streamer of the year. Ninja announced a record deal with the label Astralwerks in October 2018 to compile an album titled Ninjawerks Vol.1 which he later released on December 14, 2018. Then in 2019, Ninja was paid a whopping $1 million by Electronic Arts to promote their game Apex Legends by playing it on his streams.

In December 2016, Tyler was suspended for 48 hours for the act of one of his donor’s who had a racist name. Apparently, this act called Doxing is in violation of twitch’s rules which led to a major outburst among the streamer’s fans. Tyler later tweeted that he deserved this punishment. Then in the spring of 2018, Ninja improvised the ‘N’ word while rapping the song “44 More” by Logic during one of his streams with Nadeshot. This sparked a controversy to which he later apologized for any offence caused and later regarding that scenario as being “tongue-tied”.
