Childhood, Education and Early Beginnings
Richard Tyler Blevins aka Ninja aka Richard ‘Ninja’ Blevins was born on June 5, 1991, in Lake Villa, Illinois, USA. Being the youngest of three brothers, Tyler got into gaming at an early age because of his father who also loved video games. Quickly started getting the hang of it and Tyler started beating his older brothers in video games quickly. Tyler’s first game of choice was Halo which was first released in 2001 and he mastered every detail. He was also a big fan of Final Fantasy XI, which he started playing when he was on 12 years old all the way up to college.
Tyler attended Grayslake North High School from 2005 to 2009 and during that time he also worked at Noodle & company. Also during that time, he became one of the first few Halo players who streamed on Justin.tv and Twitch. As he got his way through high school, his online numbers were also climbing gradually with his bank account. He had also found his girlfriend now wife – Jessica Goch and life was going well. He left his job at Noodles & Company when he started earning 3,000 dollars a month through streaming and a little time later, he also stopped going to school.

The kid from Lake Villa was quickly earning some buzz after winning his first Halo 4 exhibition at the Dallas convention centre in 2012. Everything was going well when in 2014, a problem occurred. Tyler’s vision was depleting, turns out his retina detached. He signed up for the surgery and it took months. After Halo and H1Z1, Ninja moved to a new game which took the video game industry by a storm. It was Player Unknowns Battlegrounds aka PUBG. His streaming numbers boomed and his subscriber numbers were rising.
After this Tyler played PUBG a lot, adding more gimmicks in his streams to make them more interactive and fun. But this was just the tip of the iceberg. The real switch that no one saw coming happened when another battle royale game launched and it became bigger than any online multiplayer game, even PUBG. It was Fortnite. When Ninja put his hands on this game, he struck gold. In December 2016, Tyler was suspended for 48 hours for the act of one of his donor’s who had a racist name. Apparently, this act called Doxing is in violation of twitch’s rules which led to a major outburst among the streamer’s fans. Tyler later tweeted that he deserved this punishment. Then in the spring of 2018, Ninja improvised the ‘N’ word while rapping the song “44 More” by Logic during one of his streams with Nadeshot. This sparked a controversy to which he later apologized for any offence caused and later regarding that scenario as being “tongue-tied”.
