RUSSIAN DOLL SEASON 2 PLOT THEORIES:

From “Groundhog day” to “Before I fall” to “Edge of tomorrow” to “Happy death day”, all time loop movies have successfully captivated the audience, some tried to explain the reason for the time resetting while others just focused on the resulting drama.

Russian Doll characters also find themselves unintentionally in the time loop and came with various theories of their own, for what might be resetting their day, from Alan’s “purgatorial punishment for being a bad person” to Nadia’s “dense gravitational field bathroom door that is gaining consciousness”, all were discussed.

But what the first season did great was that is has given itself a self-satisfactory explanation which can be best understood by what the Rabbi has said in episode 3: “buildings aren’t haunted, people are. You can only reach wisdom through surrender, by being nothing”. And as we saw that, it is only when both Nadia and Alan came to peace with their past, that they were able to move forward.

But Russian doll first season was not just another Time loop story, it has so many deep metaphorical elements and parallel universe bonkers stuff going on that fans couldn’t help but engaged and came up with all sort of plot theories for the second season of Russian doll.

1# RUSSIAN DOLL SEASON 2 PLOT THEORY 1: NADIA’S PAST

It is by far the most convincing theory out there on the internet. The 2nd season may answer why Nadia is stuck in the time loop, in the first place and it may have something to do with her past.

We know that it was Nadia’s 36th birthday, exactly a year more than what her mother had lived, when things started going berserk. She was crazy (Sorry! Ruth) and tries to shatter mirrors every time and as Ruth explained, “Mirrors are proof of existence. Another pair of eyes”.

So it is possible that her mother was also experiencing some sort of loop and that’s why she was unstable and may have passed that to Nadia. Nadia did coughed up a shattered piece of glass in one of her loop while hearing “she’s still inside you”. Nadia and Alan both also seems to restart the loop in front of the mirror.

On top of that Nadia’s grandparents were holocaust survivors and “Russian dolls” were also called as “Babushka Dolls”, Babushka meaning grandmother. So can the series leap up to that time? Maybe the Krugerrand locket passed down from her grandparents via her mother has something to do with it.

Also Nadia seem to connect with the character “Emily” from the novel “Emily of new moon”, which was referenced in multiple episodes in the first season. But what most interesting is that “Emily” in the Novel have a special gift of “second sight”, a type of clairvoyance, which she inherited from her grandmother. So maybe it all started during the holocaust.

Russian Dolls were nested dolls stacked one inside other until one reaches the core and it certainly will be a lot meaningful in Nadia’s case but unexplainable as to why Alan is sucked inside of it.

2# RUSSIAN DOLL SEASON 2 PLOT THEORY 2: NADIA’S GAME

Believe it or not but the silly fans comparison of Nadia’s game and Nadia’s time loop has now taken a full-fledged fan theory, shipped by many.

In episode 6, Alan tell Nadia that it is impossible to beat her game and also in episode 7 Nadia explained the time loop as: “it’s like a bug. Like is a program that keeps crashing. The crashing is just a symptom of a bug in the code. If the deaths are us crashing, then that moment is the bug that we need to go and fix”.

And they did fix that but, although in two different parallel universe, so the quote seems like it was metaphorically told but fan theory has that the show will take a U-turn into a sci-fi genre of parallel universe. Some even suggesting that “Horse”, the homeless man, who told Nadia that he was also a programmer and had worked on dark web, may actually play a pivotal role in second season.

3# RUSSIAN DOLL SEASON 2 PLOT THEORY 3: OATMEAL IS BEHIND ALL THIS:

It’s not much of a theory but more like a good-natured banter but it has fan divided. Some claiming the 9 lives of cats is more than a metaphor here while team “Oatmeal” will not hear any of their “slut-shaming”.

Jokes aside, the title of the series finale, “Ariadne”, taken from the name of ancient Greek princess of mazes and labyrinths, tells us that the story of Nadia is far from over.

WHO WILL STAR IN SECOND SEASON OF NETFLIX’S RUSSIAN DOLL?

The Russian Doll cast is led by “Natasha Lyonne”, who received a Golden Globe Awards nomination in the “Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy” category for her role of “Nadia Vulvokov”. So she is definitely starring in lead role of a smart-ass video game developer, again.

“Charlie Barnett”, who played the role of “Alan Zaveri”, also has a high chance of reprising his role. Greta Lee who played Maxine and Rebecca Henderson who played Lizzy, both friends of Nadia, will be a sure shot pick, especially since, Natasha Lyonne is also the executive producer on the show. Yul Vazquez, who played Nadia’s ex-boyfriend “John Reyes” will also play a pivotal role.

“Louie”, the stray cat who played “Oatmeal” will also look for available dates to grace the show with a cameo.

Other key roles will be played by “Elizabeth Ashley” as “Ruth Brenner”,“Chloë Sevigny” as Nadia’s mother, “Brooke Timber” as “Young Nadia” and “Waris Ahluwalia” as “Wardog”, Nadia’s drug dealer.

Parks and Recreation star and co-creator of Russian Doll, “Amy Poehler” is also rumoured to be roped in for a small cameo role.
